HUS-Apartments Bahamankatu 3

The City reserved a housing block in Jätkäsaari for Hoas, HUS and AYY. The total floor area ratio of the plot is 16 800 sq. m, which according to Helsinki City Council was distributed equally to the three organizations. Our office was commissioned to plan the constructions on HUS´s plot. A sheltered, mutual courtyard is carried out in the middle of the housing block between the constructions of all three organizations. Playground and recreational facilities are also shared, and an emergency route runs through the entire block. HUS’s plot is located along Bahamankatu and Bahamankuja. The shared 29-spot parking area is located at the Bahamankuja side of the building. A clear entrance from the street to the building and the main stairwells are located on Bahamankatu where the buildings masses meet, since the parking area blocks a clear path from Bahamankuja. There is also an accessible connection from the main stairwells to the courtyard.

The town plan demands some variation to the heights and retractions of the building´s masses, which in turn made it possible to create stairwells and corridors with plenty of daylight. Shared terraces are situated on the 5th, 6th and 7th floors.

The bright, functional and efficient one-, two- and three-room apartments are planned for HUS employees. All apartments have a french balcony.
